SPORTS FLASH!! Hall of Fame
Shakes Induction Plans!

Your Sports Hall of Fame Committee has come up with some exciting changes to add some spice to our annual induction ceremony. We think you will be excited as well.

Starting this fall, the Sidney Alumni Sports Hall of Fame Induction dinner and ceremony will be held on Homecoming Weekend! For the Class of 2007, and alumni interested in attending the dinner, this means coming back to Sidney the weekend of September 21 and 22, 2007. But that's not all!

In addition to the four inductees, the SHOF committee has decided to also honor a championship team! Word is already spreading fast as to who the inductees will be and which team was selected to begin the parade of champions during this special time. For the record they are:

Kermit Marble, class of 1955, was a three sport star for Sidney, known as a great pitcher in baseball. He also excelled in football and basketball.

Mike Gallup, class of 1963, still holds the school record with 41 points scored in a basketball game. Mike's football talent led him to play at Colgate University.

Vinny Lynch, class of 1977, set the then-league record for the high jump and ran three years of varsity cross - country. His main sport was basketball, which he also played at the University of Rochester.

Coach Al Drake, deceased, was well-known for his championship baseball teams in the 1950s and 60s. Coach Drake also coached the football linemen for a number of years.

The first championship team to be honored will be the 1950 football team, who finished at 7-0 and demolished almost every opponent. The community supported their Warriors 100%, much like they did for the State Championship team of 2005. Students, faculty and community members organized a spectacular banquet held at the Scintilla cafeteria with special guest, the legendary Syracuse football coach, Floyd "Ben" Schwartzwalder.

This team, along with Kermit, Mike, Vinny and Coach Drake's widow, Dorothy, will be recognized during halftime of the Sidney-Lansing football game on Friday September 21, 2007. The annual dinner on Saturday evening, September 22, will make it official. Details on the dinner will be found on the Alumni Website and announced during Alumni Weekend in July.

Members of the 1950 team: Please contact either Wayne King '52 or Tom Rogers '52 who are coordinating the weekend festivities for you. Plans tentatively call for a reception following the football game, so again, look for details on the website! Wayne can be reached at 607-967-8881 or e-mail him at wking2@stny.rr.com. You may reach Tom at 760-480-0610 or e-mail him at rrtr@sbcglobal.net.

For team members who are deceased, we'd like a family member to join m the celebration. Wayne and Tom are eager to ensure that each member of this outstanding team will be represented!

The 5th anniversary of the Sidney Alumni Sports Hall of Fame dinner will be truly a memorable one!
