Mindy Lamb Doyle '84

Mindy was an accomplished student-athlete and a dedicated leader during her high school years. She was a proud member of the Lydia C. Metz Chapter of the National Honor Society, a Scholar Athlete, and a member of the Student Council. She excelled in three varsity sports: field hockey, basketball, and softball, and shared the title of co-captain in field hockey and basketball. She started playing modified field hockey in 6th grade and, by the time she was a sophomore, had become a three-sport varsity athlete.

In Mindy's senior year, all three girls' sports teams won the Sectional IV Championships! The softball team achieved an impressive record of 11 wins and 2 losses, reaching the regional semifinals after defeating Elmira Notre Dame 3-1 in the Sectional final. The basketball team, with at least 13 wins, reached the regional finals after beating Lansing in the Sectional Championship 52-49. Most notable is the success of the 1983 field hockey team. Sidney advanced to the regional playoffs, beating Norwich 1-0 in the Sectional final, with Mindy scoring the lone goal on a penalty stroke. The team went on to win both regional semi-finals and finals, allowing them to play in the first-ever NY Field Hockey State Championship at Manhattanville College. (The previous year, as a junior, her team won the Regional Finals, but a state game did not yet exist.) The field hockey team did not win the state championship game but had a remarkable season, finishing with 17 wins, 2 losses, and 2 ties. After graduation, Mindy held the all-time scoring record for the sport for almost a decade. (The 1983 Field Hockey Team received the 8th Annual Team Legacy Award for our Hall of Fame in 2014.)

While attending SUNY Cobleskill, she earned collegiate All-American honors for the position of left-inner, an award typically reserved only for attendees of that year's National Competition. Her team earned the right to compete at Nationals but was unable to go due to a paperwork/registration error. Regardless, the National Committee awarded her the honor based on her reputation and the knowledge of her season performance.

Let's discuss Mindy's journey after high school. Her academic credentials include four degrees. She earned an AS in Mathematics from SUNY Cobleskill, a BS in Business Education from SUNY Oneonta, and an MBA from Syracuse University. She finished by achieving a 4.0 GPA while completing a School District Administration (SDA) Certification from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

Mindy has a rich teaching background, spending four years teaching high school business and then serving as the Director of Adult Education at DCMO BOCES for nine years. For the past 17 years, she has been a professor at SUNY Morrisville, focusing on the School of Business. Throughout her career, she has received several accolades, including the Outstanding Senior Award in Business Education from SUNY Oneonta, the Business Economics Department Faculty Award from SUNY Oneonta, the Outstanding Senior Award in Mathematics from SUNY Cobleskill, and the Mathematics Department Faculty Award from SUNY Cobleskill.

After graduating from Cobleskill, Mindy worked for Preferred Mutual Insurance Company for a year. On a lighter note, she also worked for a few years as a Night Monitor at the Holiday Inn in Binghamton, where she had some unique experiences. She was invited to party with Huey Lewis, brought toiletries to Jake the Snake, helped carry Robert Plant from the lobby to his room, and spent an entire shift searching for Alice Cooper's 8-foot Burmese python. Finally, Mindy also enjoyed being a blackjack dealer for five years.

Her legacy continues to inspire others; she married a Sidney Warrior, and in proper school spirit, she and Tim Doyle raised all five of their children to be Sidney Warriors. All five played on Sidney sports teams, many advancing to playoff championships of their own.
