The Alumni Association is issuing a challenge to all alumni to help to fill the shelves of the new High School Library scheduled to open in August, 2005. We will be working closely with high school librarian, Eileen Coryat to provide titles appropriate for the students needs.

Here is the way it will work. Simply send a book from one of the approved lists or websites or something similar from your own collection, to the association address. We will gather the books and present them to the librarian. Or you can drop off the book or books at Alumni Center, Room 319 in the Civic Center at 21 Liberty Street in Sidney. Together we can easily donate a large number of books and make this an ongoing project.

In order to make sure we choose books that are needed-there will be lists posted on our website www.sidneyalumni.org with links to the wish lists posted by Mrs. Coryat. At present the only "wish list" is on www.amazon.com. Click on "wish lists" at the top of the screen and put in the name "Sidney High School" and the titles on the list will be displayed. It will be possible to purchase titles right from the linked website and have them sent to the association address. Don't hesitate to check out the new and used copies listed there-the cost is much less.

If you have books in your own collection that are either the same or similar subject matter-you can send them along to us too. Please make sure that these books are in good condition. When a book is put into the library's collection, a label will be placed in the front of the book with the donor's name on it. Remember that the SCSAA is now a tax exempt organization and your donations are tax deductible. A great idea would be for each person attending Alumni Weekend to bring along a book for the library and drop it off during the weekend at Alumni Center. Anniversary classes can make this a project for their reunion. You can also donate the price of a book to us and we will purchase an approved title and pass it along to the school.
