Rene 'Bus' Pittet '38
|
"Bus" Pittet started in the 2nd grade of Sidney Schools in 1926 having come from Bridgeport, CT when his father, Rene E Pittet Sr, joined the newly formed Scintilla Magneto Co. Bus went all the way to the 12th grade (class of '37) with this same group of students but failed to gain enough points to graduate with them. He then dropped back and graduated with the class of '38.
During their Senior years, Ward Hermann and Rene (Bus) were very active in the Arts, among other things they did the full page block prints in the 1936, 1937 and 1938 Year Books (REFLECTORS). If you look
carefully you will find their name or initials secretively included in the prints. Ward continued on in a successful career in Art in Delhi, NY while Rene pursued a career in music. |

Because of his two years experience as a clarinet player in the new school orchestra, upon graduation he applied for and was accepted in the 42nd Coast artillery Band at Ft. Hancock, NJ. He was chosen to go to the US Army Bandleaders School at the War College in Washington, DC in March, 1942 and led Military Bands in various States and overseas from then on.
Upon retiring after 24 years in the Army and Air Force, Bus worked for the General Electric Co, Lear Jet Corp, Lear Siegler Corp and two Universities, Western Michigan University and the University of South Florida. Being fully retired in 1990, Rene (Bus) and his lovely wife Millie have travelled extensively over half of the world from the Southern tip of New Zealand to Alaska to South America to Norway and Turkey and lots of points in between. |
